The Society AGM will be held on the evening of Wednesday 4th September at the Westmorland Hotel (Tebay services) single rooms are £90 and double or twin £110 – the AGM will begin at 6.30 – meal at 8.00
Then the following day, Thursday 5th September, the society open day will take in two leading Cumbrian herds by kind permission of the Warburton and Simpson families.
This will be a tremendous opportunity to visit two herds which have had over ten years experience of the breed, with differing systems and influences.
The morning visit to the Colapple herd features cows principally cross bred from Holsteins based on an organic system with 200 cows at Colby Laithes near Appleby. Owned by Rob and Elizabeth Warburton, they will welcome visitors from 10am on Thursday 5th September, offering lunch to visitors at noon.
You are then all welcome to move to the Knock Cross herd of Gary and Kate Simpson at Knock Cross, Long Marton, Appleby, Cumbria where 100 cows average 7500 litres and are 100% Jura Betail bred pure Montbeliardes from 1.15- 1.30pm leaving before the 3.30pm afternoon milking.
To get a preview of either herd read their farm stories in the recent Monty Times magazine, available from the Chairman or secretary!
